Season 1 Production Day 5

Busy day for production and some more action shots courtesy of Bev’s driving. Filming out in Prospect Heights, IL, we nearly finished all outdoor scenes for episode 7.

Anthony sneakily turns on the Bears game between takes.

Henri and Duncan asking Luca and Deanna for a ride back to Yard Times HQ. Our first time filming with both Anthony and Toph (Luca/Duncan) together. We found out after we cast them as best friends in the show that they’re actually good friends in real life.

image

Although after this scene, Toph might be rethinking his relationship as Anthony berates him about his backwards visor and choice of NBA teams. Director called for Anthony to make fun of Toph for thirty seconds, not his character Duncan. Some hilarious real reactions to the attacks.

Running lines after lunch. Lunch consisted of grade school brown bags with our names on the side and delicious PB&J sandwiches, snacks and Twinkies on the inside. Thanks for the great lunch Michelle!

Our first day filming with Michelle as Rochelle “Roach.”

A next-door neighbor started loudly hedging his bushes so me moved to an empty lot down the street to film the next scene. Nick protected his fair skin along the way.

Filming a scene from episode 4, this is pretty close to our full ensemble. The gang looks great!

The gang waits for another cloud to pass before we shoot the next scene. This empty lot is now famous, thanks for letting us use your lawn – sure glad we got permission.

Filming Deanna and Henri explaining the Yard Times tasks of episode 4. Anthony, in the background, bears his teeth to show everyone who’s in charge.

Final shot of the day with Luca and Duncan from episode 1. I rolled the fake joint from the back page of a check book and grass (real grass) and it ended up looking pretty legit.

image

Epic shot of Anthony and our first lawn mower of the entire production. Shots like these make me wish that we had a serious production blog camera other than my phone.

image

Another quick take before the clouds took over the afternoon production.

image

Nothing to see here, Duncan demonstrating a cat licking peanut butter off of a Yard Times client.

image

Nick, Toph, Anthony, Max finishing our final shot before I had to take off.

Byron is such a good sport that when we were figuring out space in the car, he volunteered to sit in my son’s car seat. He seriously sat in there for the hour-long car ride back to Chi-town.

Another action-packed day of Yard Times, we’re beginning to see some yellow leaves in trees and other signs of the impending autumn so even though we are only about 30% finished with filming our outdoor scenes we are racing to finish in the next few weeks. Stupid Chicago and its stupid short summer.
